GENERAL FOREMAN
Reports To: Supervisor
Summary
We are looking for a General Foreman who provides leadership and is responsible for, although not limited to: Scheduling, workforce planning, coordinating, supervising, assisting in cost control and ensuring the safety, consistent and fair application of all Labour relations policies and procedures, proper training and productivity of teams at the workforce who manufacture steel structural, Bridge components and miscellaneous steel structures.

Job Duties
- Knowing and understanding the requirements of and liabilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Participating in Safety/ incident investigations and reviews
- Ensures timely responses, actions and corrections to any safety issues
- Assessing competency and capability of foreman and tradespersons, evaluating team capability, training, coaching to ensure that team meets required levels of quality
- Assigning team tasks
- Supporting job training for employees and facilitating mentoring.
- Setting and maintaining work standards and outlining behavioural expectations to ensure team morale and productivity
- Applying the company’s progressive corrective action policy where applicable and the principles of workplace respect/ conduct
- Identifying and/or verifying that all tools and materials required by the team are available and complete
- Translating general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for each team
- Reviewing inspection reports and coordinating resolutions to deficiencies
- Ensuring Foreman’s logs and diaries are maintained
- Coordination with Logistics team for production planning for logistics arrangements
- Recommending personnel actions such as hiring, training, promotions and corrective actions
- Reviewing time cards and addressing issues related to work ethics
- Reporting Safety incidents and addressing the issues on time
- Supporting Human Resources for conducting corrective actions for employees with issues related to work punctuality, ethics, safety concerns etc
Requirements
- Has 3 or more years’ experience as a shop foreman, who is familiar with other manufacturing trades (Red seal considered an asset)
- Form and implement workface team plans and schedules
- Assess team skills
- Handle the administrative duties of position, including completion of required documents
- Encourage, foster and manage differences and diversity in the work place
- Understanding of Occupational health and safety and environment policies and procedures
- Strong knowledge on reading drawings and interpreting specifications
- Strong knowledge of scheduling and planning
- Knowledge of administrative tools and systems
- Knowledge on Worker’s Compensation Board reporting time frames and responsibilities
Work Conditions
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g. hard-hat, safety boots, etc.)
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in a variety of conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
- Requires exceptionally high level of Hand-Eye coordination.
- Noise level is generally loud.
- Excellent stamina is required.
- Hazards associated with the manufacturing industry.
- Ability to conduct and attend presentations.
